Rules
Overnight Encampment Rules.
- For safety reasons, do not run aboard the vessels or in the parking lot.
Groups may run in the grassy play area.
- The seawall is off limits to children except with adult supervision.
- Many systems aboard the vessels are operational. Please do not move any
knobs, switches, dials, buttons, levers, or wheels.
- The heads, showers and sinks are not operational. Do not pour anything in
them or you will be responsible for for the clean-up.
- For safety reasons, there must be an adult awake at all times during the
overnight program.
- Youngsters may not leave the boat after dark unless accompanied by an
adult. An adult must be on deck watch whenever children are on deck.
- All garbage and personal gear should be offloaded from the boat by 0900
(9:00 a.m.) The Overnight Supervisor will make an inspection.
- Please wipe or sweep up food spills as they happen.
- Gum is not allowed in any part of the boat.
- At dusk we will retire Colors and at 0730 (7:30 am) we will raise Colors.

- The Overnight Supervisor will designate each group's sleeping
compartment(s).
- We are proud of our boats and we know you are proud of your organization.
Our vessels will proudly wear their Colors; please wear your uniform top.
- All adults are to remain on site unless the group leader has made prior
arrangements with the Overnight Supervisor.
- Alcoholic beverages are not allowed aboard the vessels or on the premises.
- No smoking is allowed aboard the vessels. Smoking is permitted on shore if
you are 18 years of age or older. Smoking by anyone under the age of 18 is
illegal in the state of Michigan.
- Aboard SILVERSIDES youngsters are permitted on the bridge (upper gun deck)
as long as one or more adults are on the upper deck to supervise. No one is
permitted in the lookout rings above the gun deck.
- The Overnight Supervisors are responsible for seeing that the rules and
regulations are followed. They have the authority to enforce rules and
time-out if needed. The Overnight Supervisors are not responsible for
individual child watch.
- The group must provide a responsible adult for each child or group of
children. The assigned adult must be in attendance of his/her group at all
times to assure each child's safety.
- The group must be respectful of the Museum's neighbors. Please stay off
the hill behind the Museum and do not walk on private property. Please keep
noise to a minimum at night. Local laws specify 2200 (10:00 pm) as the start
of quiet time.
- Appropriate language is expected at all times.
- Groups must be respectful of each other.
