What can I plan on?
- Welcome! Check-In time is 1800 (6 pm) Do not unload your gear at this
time.
- Upon arrival the group leader is responsible for checking in with the
Overnight Supervisor in the gift shop.
- The Overnight Supervisor will review the rules with the group.
- Next are guided tours and chow. The Overnight Supervisor will work out the
schedule with the group leader. Large groups will be divided into smaller
numbers for ship tours and mess sections which take place in the museum or
at outdoor picnic tables.
- Plan to bring Frisbees and Kickballs, as this is also a good time to play
games in the adjacent yard.
- The group leader can sign up to retire the Colors.
- After all groups have toured SILVERSIDES and/or McLANE and the Overnight
Supervisor has assigned bunks, it is time to load gear aboard ship.
- When all gear has been stowed, campers are allowed free time. Your group
can bring board and card games or ask for a copy of our scavenger hunt.
Groups are encouraged to explore the vessel you have reserved for the night,
and movies are available (free of charge) in the gift shop. Groups can also
bring their own appropriate videos.
- Free time is also a good time for a snack aboard your vessel or around the
fire pit on shore. (bring your own firewood)
- 10 p.m. is the start of quiet time and is a good time to use the head or
visit the gift shop.
- 2300 (11 pm) is suggested lights out.
- 2300 (11 pm) also starts the first watch. At least one adult must be awake
at all times. We suggest a schedule of one hour watch shifts, and the
Officer of Watch may choose a youngster to join the watch if desired. The
Officer of Watch must check the boat every hour, accompany any youth who
needs to use the onshore heads (port-a-jons) during the night. A schedule of
the Watch Officers must be posted in the mess with the bunk location of each
officer. When watch is over, please wake up the next person on the list and
make sure they are up before you retire to your bunk.
- 0730 (7:30 am) is lights on. Rise and shine!
- 0800 (8 am) is Reveille and Colors.
- 0800 (8 am) is also time for breakfast if desired. Groups can eat on board
(if room permits) or in the museum.
- 0830 (8:30 am) is time to offload gear and clean your vessel. This
includes off loading all garbage and sweeping the deck.
- 0900 (9 am) is boat inspection. This is a good time for everyone to make
last minute purchases in the gift shop. The group leader will be presented
with overnight certificates.
- 0930 (9:30 am) is departure time.
